Day 7: 365 Days of Motivation for Widows

Ecclesiastes 3:1-8

To everything there is a season, A time for every purpose under heaven:
A time to be born, And a time to die;
A time to plant, And a time to pluck what is planted;
A time to kill, And a time to heal;
A time to break down, And a time to build up;
A time to weep, And a time to laugh;
A time to mourn, And a time to dance;
A time to cast away stones, And a time to gather stones;
A time to embrace, And a time to refrain from embracing;
A time to gain, And a time to lose;
A time to keep, And a time to throw away;
A time to tear, And a time to sew;
A time to keep silence, And a time to speak;
A time to love, And a time to hate;
A time of war, And a time of peace.

No doubt someone has made a point to tell you that it must have been your spouses ‘time’ to go. Some have probably even quoted this particular text from The Holy Bible. We all know we will leave this world one day, but it doesn’t make losing someone any easier. Maybe they are right, perhaps that is exactly what this text means. Or, maybe it means that this time is difficult and we all have our difficult moments. As we also have our peaceful and loving moments. After all, moments, good and bad, are in part what make us exactly who we were meant to be.  To me, this passage is comforting. To me it means everything is temporary. Yes, the good times will give way to hard times. No way around that–it also means that while these hard times might knock us to our needs, we can and will get through it. We will learn to live and we will find our way back to a happy life.
